When we meet for the first time, we will discuss what techniques are most relevant and will be most beneficial to you in working toward your own physical and mental goals. Head, Feet and Hands are included in all massages but I like to spend a little more time in these areas which are often overlooked but all carry a lot of tension. Just spending a few extra minutes here can cause stress relief throughout your whole body.
Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. Myofascial Release is great if you have specific areas of pain that need to be addressed, during a session the therapist may only focus on a few areas of your body that are directly related to the pain you are experiencing. By only working on a few areas rather than a full body massage it gives the connective tissue the time it needs to release, rather than moving quickly onto the next area. Though the approach may seem more gentle, it is actually the deepest work you can receive.
Pre/Post Natal Prenatal massage can alleviate mental and physical fatigue and promote relaxation, reduce swelling and high blood pressure, relieve musculoskeletal pain and strain, contribute to shorter, less painful labor, and facilitate postpartum recovery. As each pregnancy is a completely different experience, we will spend time before each session learning as much as possible about your unique situation and, as your pregnancy progresses, we will continue to shape your treatment according to the specific and changing needs of your body. One myth about prenatal massage is that it has to be a 'light' massage, this may be true in certain area's of the body but if you prefer deep tissue massage, I am certified and trained to know when its appropriate and safe to give a deeper massage. When receiving a prenatal massage you will by lying on your side with a body cushion to make you comfortable, half way through, I will have you switch sides and may have you spending a few minutes on your back towards the end of the massage if this is comfortable and appropriate for you.
Trigger Point Therapy A trigger point is a tight area within muscle tissue that causes pain in other parts of the body. A trigger point in the back, for example, may produce referral pain in the neck. The neck, now acting as a satellite trigger point, may then cause pain in the head. The pain may be sharp and intense or a dull, and often feels like the 'good' pain when pressed. Breaking up trigger points helps to rehydrate your connective tissue, relieving pain and giving you a greater range of motion.
